About Me
I love working and being with people outdoors. I love my dogs Stanley and Peggy. I love teaching, supervising and supporting people. I find the natural world and the people in it endlessly fascinating. I believe in our capacity to move through and learn from the difficult times and make the most of what we're given.
Before becoming a therapist I did many jobs from organic vegetable grower to cleaner in an elderly care home, via coffee shop assistant, weaving apprentice and bagging herbs and spices in a wholefood co-op.
I worked for many years managing projects for a national charity supporting people with mental ill-health and physical disabilities into work. I trained and also taught counselling after coming to Kent to study for my degree in Rural Environment Studies.
While I was working out in the fields weeding vegetable seedlings I realised that what kept me going through the days that were too cold, too wet, too dry, too hot, too difficult was working alongside other people and hearing their stories. Connecting with them, and us supporting each other. Around the same time several members of my extended family died in very difficult circumstances and I made a commitment to myself that I would learn how to support people effectively and do what I could whenever I could. That led to me being a therapist and when I made that decision I had no idea how I was going to manage the practicalities, just that it was the right thing for me. Many years later it's still the right thing for me but I do it very differently now. I choose to work in a way that supports my own wellbeing as well as my client's, out in the fresh air, with the plants, trees, animals, coasts and people of Kent as much as possible and online. Stanley loves it too and working together brings a different energy.
I believe I am honest, practical, creative, warm, flexible and adaptable. No two people are alike and there is endless variety in the natural world. We are part of that so I feel the way I support people best is to work with that glorious variety and ever changing landscape.
